Val d’Isère to host culinary celebration
15th – 20th March 2010
Long accustomed to hosting great sporting events such as the Olympic Games in 1992, the World Alpine Skiing Championships in 2009 and the Critérium de la première neige for more than 50 years, Val d’Isère also reserves a special place for culture and the art of living, regularly hosting popular events such as music festivals, film festivals and literature conferences. This season sees the first gastronomic festival take place in the resort, in the form of “PISTES GOURMANDES, la cuisine pure”, a pioneering event celebrating French and international cuisine, with an emphasis on sustainable development.
Between the 15th – 20th March 2010 Val d’Isère will be welcoming a number of the greatest names in French and international gastronomy for a six day festival taking place in various locations around the resort. PISTES GOURMANDES, la cuisine pure aims to increase awareness of organic farming, fair trade and sustainable development as well as delighting foodies and their tastebuds. In recent years Val d’Isère has become a gastronome’s paradise with a tantalizing collection of critically acclaimed restaurants including the Michelin-starred La Table de l’Ours. The town is also undertaking long term investments aimed at limiting the impact of its activities on the local environment, making it the perfect location for a gastronomic event combining cuisine and sustainable development!
The six day event will be attended by chefs including Yves Thuries, Guy Martin, Michel Roth and Jacques Pourcel and will include cookery workshops for adults and children. Themes include smoothie making, cuisine of the Ardèche, Loire and Drôme regions, l’escargot and all things chocolate! There will also be exciting cookery competitions for both professional and amateur female chefs; chances to meet the professionals, including award-winning chefs, agricultural producers, health specialists and writers; food and wine tastings and ice and fruit sculpture displays. Highlights include Children’s Day on Wednesday 17th March where cookery classes will be held for young budding chefs aged between 3-6 and 7-12 years old in the Children’s Village; and Noises In The Kitchen on Thursday 18th March – a gastronomy trail through Val d’Isère with photo exhibitions, tastings, street theatre and ice, fruit and vegetable sculpture!
